Brescia University President Father Larry Hostetter

As the President of Brescia University, I’m delighted to welcome you to our website. I came to Brescia eight years ago as a faculty member and soon fell in love with the spirit and mission of this great institution. I feel privileged now to have the opportunity to serve Brescia in a new way, in a role of servant leadership to our mission of teaching and learning.

The only Catholic University in Western Kentucky, Brescia has a proud religious and liberal arts heritage. Nearly sixty years ago a group of intrepid Ursuline Sisters responded to the needs of World War II veterans by moving their rural junior college to downtown Owensboro to create a new coeducational institution that would carry on the mission and vision of their founder, St. Angela Merici, who believed that education creates strong families which in turn create a stronger and more just society.

At Brescia we are committed to continuing that tradition of meeting the educational needs of our students, whether from the local community or from far away places. Each of our students is valued as uniquely created in God’s image. Recalling the words of St. Irenaeus that the glory of God is the human person fully alive, we recognize that true individual happiness lies in discovering and realizing one’s human potential.

That’s why we pay particular attention to the individuality of our students. You will never simply be a name on a roster. We take pride in knowing our students, in creating an atmosphere of community where all students are welcome to fully participate in the life of the campus, and to provide all of the resources and opportunities they need to find success in their lives.

To learn more about these opportunities I invite you to continue to explore our website. Whether you are beginning your college career right out of high school or are returning to study while juggling work and family, I'm sure that you will soon fall in love as I did with the spirit and mission of Brescia University.
